About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back was a complete failure however, they bounce back with their fourth album Isolation that features two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand all over the world.
After a hiatus of a few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It marks a step away from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and features some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
During the recording process for the fifth album the group loses their manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to change their name and make a new album using an entirely new producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and begins an extensive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

The next year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time that all of Toto's original members appeared together on stage at the same time. Following this, the group was again disbanded. Toto came back together for an event benefiting the ALS Foundation in 2010. to raise money for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time all the original Toto members appeared performing together for more than 31 years. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

The album marked a return to the band's top form, and the tour that came with it featured sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
